Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Indian Air Force base in Adampur, Punjab, just days after India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire. This visit followed a tense period of military conflict triggered by a recent terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir and India’s strong military response under “Operation Sindoor”.
PM Modi Meets Soldiers at Adampur
During his visit, PM Modi interacted with air warriors and soldiers who were on high alert after the recent conflict. Speaking about his experience, the Prime Minister shared:
“Earlier this morning, I went to AFS Adampur and met our brave air warriors and soldiers. It was a very special experience to be with those who epitomise courage, determination and fearlessness. India is eternally grateful to our armed forces for everything they do for our nation.”
Photos shared on social media showed PM Modi saluting in front of the powerful S-400 air defence system—making a strong statement against Pakistan’s earlier claims that this system had been destroyed.
Operation Sindoor: India’s Swift Military Response
“Operation Sindoor” was launched by India on May 7, as a counter-strike to the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir on April 22, which killed 26 people.
Following the strikes, Pakistan responded by launching missiles and drones from the western region. However, Indian defence systems, including the S-400, successfully intercepted them.
Pakistan’s Claims and India’s Response
On the night of May 9 and 10, Pakistan attempted to retaliate by attacking Indian air force bases, including Adampur. Pakistani military officials claimed that their hypersonic missiles destroyed India’s S-400 system stationed at Adampur using JF-17 fighter jets.
However, Indian officials completely denied this claim. In fact, PM Modi directly countered it by sharing photos with the intact S-400 system in the background during his visit.
A Shift in India’s Strategic Approach
Addressing the nation on Monday, PM Modi praised the armed forces for showing “unwavering courage” during the operation. He also highlighted that:
“Operation Sindoor is now India’s established policy in the fight against terrorism, marking a decisive shift in India’s strategic approach.”
Ceasefire Agreement
After four days of intense cross-border strikes, both nations reached a ceasefire agreement on Saturday, agreeing to stop further military actions immediately. This truce came after significant damage was dealt on both sides, and concerns of escalation mounted internationally.
